Should We Have a First Look?

filed in

Today I wanted to touch on a topic that I am super passionate about; the “First Look”. Every time I sit down with one of my brides to start planning her wedding day timeline, this is always a topic we go over in detail.

Let’s take it back to Spring of 2016, this is when I was lucky enough to marry my very best friend!! Believe it or not, we did NOT have a first look; and this is exactly why I am so passionate about educating my Brides in this area.

Ever since I was a little girl, when I envisioned marring my future husband I just saw him at the end of the aisle crying his eyes out as my dad walked me towards my new forever. When I was growing up, the “First Look” wasn’t really a thing; therefore it never made it into my wedding day vision as I grew up. When the time actually came for Chris and I to start planning our wedding, I was asked so many times if I was going to have a first look, it was always a hard NO from me. I wanted to stick with tradition, not a new trend. As we got closer, I started to consider the possibility of a first look, because it did make our wedding day timeline look so much more appealing…. but at the end of the day I did not want to compromise my wedding day experience to shorten my cocktail hour.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved my wedding day SO much. It was everything I could have ever imagined. BUT what I do wish I would have taken into consideration is how stinkin’ fast our day was going to fly by. I know people tell you that; but HEAR ME… DO NOT BLINK. It went so darn fast and I honestly blacked out through most of our vowels. The one thing I do wish I could have changed, was to allow for more time for Chris and I, so we could soak up all the feels one on one; without feeling the pressure to be visiting with all of our amazing guest.

So why do I recommend a first look? Timeline benefits aside, the first look truly allows you and your future husband to have some one on one time before all the wedding excitement and chaos begins! It allows you to pray together, hug one another, be excited together and take SO many more pictures 😉

While the decision is ultimately yours and it will still be the BEST DAY EVER no matter which option you choose. If having some quiet moments with your future husband to soak all the feels in is important; then choose the first look!! You won’t be disappointed, I promise <3
